Turok

Turok: Rebirth
Studio X Labs has been selected to produce the Music, Sound Design, Speech Production and Surround Mixing on Propaganda's upcoming title: Turok Rebirth. Paul Ruskay met with Josh Holmes and Jason Owen in 2005 and played them a sampling of the production work from the recently released Homeworld2 for Relic Entertainment. Both Josh and Jason felt the sci-fi orchestral meets ethnic style of Homeworld2 would be an appropriate direction for Turok: Rebirth.

During the late summer of 2005, Studio X Labs was contracted to produce a Dolby 5.1 Sound Treatment for an internal concept video for Turok: Rebirth. The process proved to be an enjoyable experience for both parties and led to the discussions for a greater level of production involvement.

Propaganda Games, is Buena Vista Games' newly formed development studio in Vancouver, Canada. The studio's charge is to create innovative action/adventure games for the upcoming next-generation platforms. The studio will focus on developing original intellectual property, as well as key BVG-owned and licensed content for the older core gamer consumer. Buena Vista Games is the interactive entertainment arm of The Walt Disney Company. Propaganda Games has already assembled a high caliber team of veteran game developers and is continuing to grow and establish their core team.



 

Fresh Games

Fresh Games: Drop Wizard
Casual Gaming is a term that has fast growing interest in the interactive industry. Coined in 2002, Casual Games are those five minute games you play for a quick break, and end up spending two hours with. Studio X Labs task on this production was to produce a compelling audio experience (Music and SFX) that was under 2 Megs of data. To achieve this goal, the music needed to be composed in MOD format, which is a stripped down MIDI sequencer that keeps the data size on the music extremely small. The game plays the MOD format MO3, which has an average song file size of 150K. Greg Sabitz of Studio X Labs had recently finished the music and sound design for the mobile game, Winter Olympics on the Nokia phone, and was ready to tackle the MOD conversion of the music and sound design for Drop Wizard. FreshGames was formed in early 2002 by a group of industry gamers whose inspiration was to go back to an earlier time, when games weren't complicated, just fun to play. FreshGames launched its first title Cubis in late 2002 to rave reviews and has been played online and downloaded by millions of people all over the world. FreshGames titles consistently are top games featured on major portals such as Yahoo, MSN, Pogo, Shockwave, Real & MSN.



 

Leo Award

2005 Leo Award for Best Music: Paul Ruskay
Paul Ruskay was awarded a 2005 Leo Award for Best Musical Score in a Short Drama for Mikhil Rullmans film. The Road that Binds Us. The score was composed with an ensemble consisting of Electric Guitar, Cello, Drums and vocals to create an eerie "David Lynch"-like soundtrack. With the help of Peggy Lee on Cello and Ty Runyen on Guitar, the score is an interesting hybrid of Indie Rock guitar and French Pastoral themes.

The Road That Binds Us is a beautifully shot and cleverly structured featurette. The bittersweet dramatic narrative follows three separate (and apparently unrelated) stories full of clashing characters and unexpected incidents. Poetic, blackly humorous and uniquely suspenseful the film tracks its characters as they move down the road that binds them towards a powerful, disturbing and uplifting conclusion on the outskirts of sleepy, little Gracetown.



 

Swords and Stars

Swords of the Stars:
Chris Stewart and Martin Cirulis of Kerberos Productions have enlisted the Studio X Labs to produce all Music, Sound Design and Speech on their upcoming release of the strategy game, "Sword of the Stars". Sword of the Stars is a breakthrough 4X Strategy game brought to you by the core team behind HomeWorld: Cataclysm. Playing as one of 4 unique races, gamers will explore planets, research new technologies and create empires in a hostile. Sword of the Stars provides quick, intuitive play, state-of-the-art graphics and tactical combat that make the game instantly involving and rewardingly fun.

Kerberos Productions is a gathering of experienced video game developers based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Before forming their own company. The team was responsible in the development of both Homeworld: Cataclysm for Sierra and Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon for Disney Interactive. Team members have also worked on over a dozen hit games, including Homeworld, Ground Control, Team Fortress, and Counterstrike.
